1- Great to have you on our blog. Please, introduce yourself?
Hola, I’m Chaos1.0 aka “Kayo” from Dayton, Ohio.
2- What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I’ve always been a fan on music. It boggles my mind that certain song and sounds are capable resonating with listeners for generations but I completely understand why. Music is bonding. Never did I imagine making something of that caliber at the time, but I started writing music at fifteen going into sophomore year. My cousins were already making their own music. So, I wanted to see what I could make as well. For me, my whole discography is an experiment. Regardless of where music specifically takes me career-wise. I always strive to create art that might touch people on a deeper level.
3- Tell us about your new EP. And what’s the story behind it?
"Dawn: Kayo's EP" is the follow-up project to my recent LP "Kayo's Day: A Mixtape" released in May. My goal behind the mixtape was to paint a kaleidoscopic picture of my inner thoughts/personality. Yet, I felt some elements were missing post-release. This inspired me to write Dawn over the summer. With more rap-based sounds than Kayo's Day, Dawn is a jagged plunge into my self-consciousness that completes the full circle intention of Kayo's Day.
4- What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
To be honest, I'm still trying to figure out how to describe my music myself. I like to experiment and work with different styles. If I had to try though, I'd say it's alternative hip-hop for sure. At my core, I love to make my mellow bedroom bops, but I often crave "zestier" sounds from myself. Thus, a discography that's all over the place yet surprisingly dynamic in its own way.
5- What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
I'd say to let your pen flow from time to time and see what happens at the end! So many songs I thought, "nah this isn't a good line". However, I ended up leaving some of them and they ended up being my favorite/most authentic songs. Please yourself with your creations before the crowd!
6- Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Some of my biggest musical influences are acts like Mick Jenkins, Bas, and Childish Gambino. I listen to/am a fan of MANY different artists and I'd like to collab with as many as possible if ever given the opportunity, but if I had to pick just one dream request: Earthgang!
7- If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Thank Yaw 4 Everything! The energy from yaw makes everything worthwhile.
8- What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
I just dropped some new visuals for the EP. It's a live performance recording in full! As of right now though, I'm in between projects and mostly packing. I head off to college this week. I'm also working on some features sent to me from members of the Hidden Renaissance music community. Beyond that, I can't really say what the near future has in store for ol' Kayo... but I think it'll be good. :)
