We had the pleasure to discuss with Tuu Ra, discover our interview with him right now:

1- Great to have you on our blog. Please, introduce yourself?
Peace. The name is Tuu Ra. I’m an Afro-Caribbean artist from Brooklyn, New York.

2- What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
Curiosity. I had a strength in writing and communication from a young age. I was always obsessed with music. My peers in school were making music and as an early teen I was exposed to creating music by my pops. I gave it a shot and have been inspired and improving ever since.

3- Tell us about your new Single. And what’s the story behind it?
The latest single is “Away” featuring Nova Amandlah. I was promoting a previous single in Zambia, Africa and Nova commented under the post saying we should work together. I checked out her catalogue and was very impressed so I agreed. At first we started on a song called “Bad Boy” and though it was well done I felt something better was brewing inside. So we let time bring it forward. A couple weeks later I reached out and said “Nova I would like for you to lay down something from your heart & soul that people can relate to deeply. Some authentic vibes”. She sure did that. This musical art piece is reminder that we all get overwhelmed and challenged. So we must remember the value and importance of equanimity, resting, releasing, recharging, retreating, balance, and modesty. These will enable us to continue making steady progress in our lives. I threw in a line from the poetic book of Psalms in my verse, "But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."
Deeper insight into that line says that “to be meek is to be gentle & humble. The meek are the ‘gentle’… those who do not assert themselves over others in order to further their own agendas in their own strength, but who will nonetheless inherit the earth because they trust in The Most High to direct the outcome of events.” - Quoted from ESV Study.

4- What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
It’s quality & substance. Innovative & distinct. Poetic and versatile. Imagination stimulating and inspiring.

5- What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
If you’re gonna be independent. Be just that. Set your own pace. Make your own rules while still being receptive to what can fit into the picture YOU want to create. It’s your craft, your passion, your dream. I believe sometimes we as artist forget that at the core of being a creative is freedom.

6- Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
That list is long. I’ll just say I’m always a student in this music industry. I can learn from anyone & anything. It’s an intention. My music journey is spiritual. I trust that I’m guided.

7- If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Know that when you hear an artist’s music, especially live, they’ve exerted energy to give you an experience. If you were present, tuned in, and especially if you enjoyed it, there was impact that added to your life in that moment and maybe forever. We all pay for experiences that trigger a preferred mood, and as most of us should know music isn’t excluded. Like everything else that has or adds value we generally exchange something for it. As long as you understand this you know what it truly means to support an artist that gives you time, energy and experience.

8- What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
Yes. VSSL, the album is on the way. We’re currently finalizing bringing together some new connections & resources so that this project will get the attention it deserves. I’m a firm believer in good marketing. At this point of my journey making music, I’m not interested in releasing music just to release it. I want to release my music and be heard virally. For now I can say we have gathered just about what we need to make this effortless.
