We Sat Down with Disintegration C.E. – Here's the Full Interview
1. Great to have you on our blog. Please, introduce yourself?
My artist moniker is Disintegration C.E...and my given name is Eric Robertson..I've been inspired by dance music since I was young, though I have so many interests within music, from hip hop to indie and psuchedelic classic rock..as far as my influneces go however, my style is tech house and it is a genre that I have been exploring alongdise house, breaks and garage for 25 years now pretty steadily though with some hiatuses in there.
2. What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
When I was young I first met this really cool Jamaican kid in the fourth grade who turned me on to rap and hip hop, and after he moved away I met a friend whose dad was a radio DJ on a hard rock radio station. He had learned from messing around at his dad's studio how to record onto cassette tape...(I'm 44..since im carbon-dating myself here anyway)..and thats how I really came to start toying with making music..I met both of those kids, coincidentally enough, during the brief three or so years that my family had relocated from San Francisco Bay Area to rural-suburban Maryland, and when we moved back to the Bay after my dad lost his job I got really into the local punk rock scene and I played rhythm guitar in punk bands until I went to my first rave after sneakiong out of a boarding school at 17. Then when I went to college I met one of my best friends, Charlie Levine (now of house duo Soul Clap) and became really invested in DJing as I completed college in Southern California at Pitzer college. While my interests diverged from his in that I was always more drawn to the techno inspired sounds than the more organic and soulful, I would say that today you can hear the influence of not only him but some of my other small tribe of DJ friends on me as my music has gotten more vocal and shied away less and less from drawing upon more classic House music energy.
3. Tell us about your new Single. And what’s the story behind it?
This new release is called "A Heart With Holes" and is a pretty good representation of this merging of my dedication to tech inspired sounds with a nostalgia for a more classic house sound that was really sort of peripheral for me at the time (I was just glad that the soulful records distracted my pals at the record shops where we dug for vinyl for hours, long before the days of Beatport, leaving me first dibs on the techier gems that floated through the stored. Thematically though, its a song about love during challenging times...challenging economic times, challenging times in terms of mental health...but it is a peaceful reflection on this,

4. What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
I’m in a place where I’m really interested in connecting with listeners — and especially other musicians. I really see dance music as an ongoing dialogue and a collective journaling of a now 5-to-6-decade-old exploration into sound, rhythm, and emotion. My music blends tech-inspired sounds with more vocal and classic house influences. Lately, I’ve been less shy about drawing from that more soulful energy, even though my foundation has always leaned toward techno. It’s this merging that I think makes my music unique — it’s personal, it’s reflective, and it’s part of a larger story.
5. What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Stay curious, stay connected to your roots, and don’t be afraid to evolve. Music is both a personal and communal journey, and the best work often comes from years of listening, experimenting, and honest reflection.
6. Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
(Influences mentioned: Jamaican kid who introduced him to hip hop, friend's dad who was a radio DJ, Charlie Levine of Soul Clap, small tribe of DJ friends — no specific mention of future collaborations)
7. If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
I’m really interested in connecting with listeners and fellow musicians. Dance music is an ongoing, collective exploration, and I want my work to be part of that ongoing story.
8. What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
I’m currently working on an EP called “Together a Poem” — it’s a tribute to techno-inspired house. After that, I have two projects in the pipeline that will push me in new creative directions: one will center a few tracks around my own vocals and more introspective themes, and the other will involve sampling directly from older music and expanding my sound outward. I’m also taking sound design more seriously now — shifting from playful experimentation to deeper, more intentional study. I’m excited to keep growing and sharing.
